In a lush green forest, there lived a fast-running rabbit. He was so fast that all the animals praised him.
The rabbit would puff out his chest and say,
Rabbit – “No one in this forest is faster than me! I am the number one runner!”
Monkey – “Yes, yes Rabbit brother, you are the fastest of all!”
Just then, a tortoise was passing by slowly.
Rabbit – “Hey Tortoise! You are so slow that even if the sun sets, you’ll still be right here!”
Tortoise – “Rabbit, being fast is good… but keeping on moving steadily is even more powerful.”
Rabbit – “Ha ha ha! What did you say? Steady? Then let’s have a race!”
Tortoise – “Alright, the race will be tomorrow morning.”
The next day, all the animals of the forest gathered.
Fox – “Today is going to be fun!”
The deer called out, “Ready… one, two, three, start!”
The rabbit ran like lightning.
While running, he turned back and shouted,
Rabbit – “Tortoise! Can you even be seen or not?”
The tortoise softly said,
Tortoise – “I am coming… I will not stop.”
After going some distance, the rabbit saw that the tortoise was far behind. He smiled and said,
Rabbit – “He is still very far away. I’ll take a little rest.”
He lay down under a tree.
Rabbit – “I’ll just close my eyes for two minutes… the victory is mine anyway!”
But he fell into a deep sleep. 😴
Meanwhile, the tortoise was saying to himself,
Tortoise – “I must not stop… slow is fine, but I must keep moving.”
The animals began whispering,
“Oh! The tortoise has almost reached the finish line!”
Monkey – “Wake up Rabbit! Hurry!”
But by then, the tortoise had already crossed the finish line. All the animals started clapping. 🎉
The rabbit woke up in panic.
Rabbit – “Oh no! How did I fall a sleep?”
He ran with all his strength, but it was too late.
The rabbit came to the tortoise feeling ashamed and said,
Rabbit – “Friend, please forgive me. I underestimated you.”
The tortoise smiled and said,
Tortoise – “Victory does not come from pride… it comes from hard work and consistent effort.”
From that day on, the rabbit never showed arrogance again.
Both became good friends. 🤝
