In a vast jungle, there lived a cruel and arrogant lion. He hunted far more animals than he needed to satisfy his hunger. The terror of the lion had spread throughout the entire forest.
One day, the frightened animals held a meeting. After much discussion, they decided to approach the lion and went to his cave. The lion came out roaring angrily and said,
“Why have you all come here? Have you come to invite your own death?”
The elephant politely stepped forward and said,
“Your Majesty, we have come with a proposal. You kill many animals every day. Instead, we will send one animal to you daily. This way, you will not have to wander in search of prey, and the rest of the animals in the jungle will remain safe.”
The lion thought about it. Getting food without any effort pleased him. He agreed and warned,
“Alright! But the day my food doesn’t arrive… I will destroy the entire jungle!”
For a few days, everything went smoothly. Then one day, it was a small rabbit’s turn. Though tiny in size, he was very intelligent. He thought to himself,
“Not by strength… but by intelligence I must win.”
He deliberately walked slowly. On the way, he noticed a deep, old well. Suddenly, a clever plan formed in his mind.
Meanwhile, the hungry lion grew furious and shouted,
“Why is it so late today? I will kill everyone!”
Just then, the rabbit arrived, breathing heavily. He said,
“Forgive me, Your Majesty! It’s not my fault…”
The lion roared,
“And you are so small! Even eating you won’t fill my stomach!”
The rabbit calmly replied,
“Your Majesty, five rabbits were coming to you. But on the way, another lion appeared. He claimed to be the real king of the jungle. He ate the other four rabbits and sent me to deliver this message to you.”
Hearing this, the lion’s pride was deeply hurt. He roared angrily,
“Where is that scoundrel? Show him to me!”
The rabbit led him to the old well and said,
“Your Majesty, he is hiding inside this well in his fortress.”
The lion looked into the well in anger. In the water, he saw his own reflection. He roared loudly, and the echo came back from inside. Now he was convinced that another lion was hiding there.
Blinded by rage, he jumped into the well. The well was very deep, and the lion drowned in the water.
The rabbit happily returned and shared the good news with all the animals. From that day on, the roar of fear was never heard in the jungle again. Happiness returned to the forest.
The little rabbit had now become a hero in everyone’s eyes.
